Keith and Bonnie Struble started the archery shop June 1995 out of their home in Mitchell. Shop hours were evenings and weekends since they both worked full time jobs. Keith wanted to provide a local shop for the area 4-H shooting sports participants and local archery shooters. In 1997 they moved the archery shop to 205 N Main Street in Mitchell which increased their retail space, added a small practice range and installed the techno hunt shooting system. In 1999 they moved the archery shop to its current location at 212 N Main Street in Mitchell. The archery shop has grown from a 500 square foot shop to over 2700 square feet in retail space and a separate range for the techno hunt shooting system on the main floor. They also have a tuning room and 6-lane 20 yard practice range in the basement.
When the shop opened in 1995 the first bow brand they carried was Fred Bear Archery and they stocked a limited amount of archery accessories and arrows. Today K&B Archery carries Mathews, Mission, Bowtech, Diamond, Hoyt and Bear Archery bows in stock. The shop now stocks a large selection of archery accessories and can custom make carbon, aluminum and wood arrows for their customers.
Keith started bowhunting in 1976. He joined the Ponderosa Archery Club in Rapid city in 1977. Keith started to learn how to make bow strings and started to fletch his own arrows in 1978. Keith moved to Mitchell in the fall of 1979 to attend Mitchell Vocational School and continued to shoot his bow. In the fall of 1980 Keith joined the Stump Shooters Archery Club in Mitchell and was also a board member. Bonnie started bowhunting with Keith in 1984 and also joined the archery club. Keith has been involved in local and state archery activities and archery organizations for over 35 years and Bonnie has been involved for over 30 years. Keith and Bonnie are both NFAA Certified Instructors and National Bowhunter Education Instructors. Keith has also been a 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor since 1994.
Keith and Bonnie are life members for the South Dakota Bowhunters Inc, National Field Archery Association and NRA. They attend seminars and other training to keep updated on all the new archery bows and accessories that are introduced each year. Bonnie also completed the certification to help train area school teachers for the National Archery in the School Program.
K&B Archery is your local pro shop in the surrounding area and provides these services: bow setup and repairs, shooting instructions for all level and types of archery, custom made arrows and repairs for carbon, aluminum and wood arrows, and they carry a large selection of archery accessories.
Archery is a sport that yu can do year round indoors and outdoors. During the winter you can join the indoor league for techno hunt and also shoot indoor 3-D shoots in Mitchell and other area archery clubs. 4-H shooting sports is also a great way for youth 8 – 18 to get hands on experience to shoot archery. In the springtime comes Turkey hunting and the start of outdoor 3-D shoots. Bowfishing is another great archery experience for you to try throughout the summer.
Our main goal as archery shop owners and instructors is to promote archery as an enjoyable sport for the whole family to do together. We want to pass the bow and arrow onto the next generation.
